Utah To Become Leader in Community-Benefiting Business

On March 1, HB 186 passed unanimously out of the Utah State Senate, enabling Utah to become only the fourth sate to allow registration of BLLCs.  We hope this will provide the opportunity for a breakthrough in awareness and desire among business owners, managers and employees and even consumers, that there is now a new and better way to do business.  We want to look back on that Senate vote as the day that Utah business changed for the better!

P3 Utah is in debt to our legislative champions Representative Keven Stratton of Provo as lead sponsor and Senator Todd Weiler of Woods Cross as Senate sponsor.  We had an intrepid testimony team, led by John Pilmer of PilmerPR.  John come up from Provo three times in six months to go on the hot seat to advocate for this new law.   Keven Stratton Jr of Stratton Law Group, testified in the Senate and House committees and deftly handled a barrage of tax related questions in the Senate committee hearing.  Jeff Miller of Mark Miller Subaru spoke at the House committee hearing and both Melissa Sevy and Smokey Peck (with multiple affiliations each), were able to testify before the Senate committee.

We also had declarations of support from Michael Parker of the Salt Lake Chamber and Michael O’Malley of GOED in committee.  Our most articulate floor speech was provided by Representative Patrice Arent of Millcreek.  Along with the SL Chamber and GOED, the bill received official endorsements from the Social Enterprise Alliance Utah Chapter, Vest Pocket Business Coalition, Utah Nonprofits Association and the Recycling Coalition of Utah:  THANK YOU.

We are so very grateful for all of the phone calls, emails and Facebook work of many of the people we asked for help.  Having the most to gain, we saw a lot of help from the 40 business owners who have pledged to convert their LLCs to BLLCs, now that we have this new law.  In particular, we want to thank Marci Rasmussen of Especially for You Flowers and the enthusiasm of her Facebook following team.

An event of this magnitude deserves several celebrations and extraordinary efforts to share the good news and encourage even more business owners to come forward and joining the pioneers of the Utah BLLC movement.  Soon, we will be able to announce the formal effective day commemoration event to be held at the State Capitol in May, along with a whole host of visits to Chambers and allied organizations.  At the Capitol event, we will recognize and honor Utah’s first class of BLLC owners.  If you would like for you company to be one of Utah’s Original BLLCs,” please contact Lauren Coleman, P3 Utah’s new communications manager  Lauren would also like to hear your ideas on channels to use to spread the word.

It’s time to P3 party!!! That means triple fun responsibly with a positive social and environmental impact.
